All right, this is a piggyback episode off of last week's episode around discerning what that next step feels like.
Speaker A:And it's when you have.
Speaker A:Your brain is just overly buzzing with ideas, right?
Speaker A:You've got new ideas for offers and new content and systems and collabs and all the things.
Speaker A:And like that really, that excitement of, oh my gosh, now what?
Speaker A:And now I've got all these ideas and I figured out where the bottleneck was and I did all the things and now I'm ready to execute.
Speaker A:But like, where do I even begin?
Speaker A:Where do I start?
Speaker A:Like, it's exciting and paralyzing at the same time.
Speaker A:And so today's episode, I'm going to dive into like a process that you can use over and over and over again.
Speaker A:So definitely save this one.
Speaker A:Come back when you have a chance to take notes, how to really prioritize your ideas.
Speaker A:Right?
Speaker A:Filter through what actually matters and how to choose what to do next.
Speaker A:Okay, so if you been feeling that stuck, stagnant energy and you also have a million ideas, then this one is for you.
Speaker A:And we are getting ready to dive in.
Speaker A:All right, I hope you have your pen and paper ready because this one is going to be like a little mini masterclass.
Speaker B:Okay?
Speaker A:Actually, this is a mini masterclass.
Speaker A:I taught this masterclass inside the Focus Visionary in April.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:So again, that's another thing I never ever mentioned is that the Focus Visionary, every single month we have a different workshop that is in conjunction in two and accompanies the teachings inside of fea.
Speaker A:And it's usually like clients, client based.
Speaker A:What are you guys struggling with this month?
Speaker A:What do you want to talk about?
Speaker A:What's, what do you want to dive deeper in?
Speaker A:So anyways, this was the topic.
Speaker A:So this, this episode literally is driven in stem from a masterclass.
Speaker A:Okay, so what do you do when you've got all of these ideas in your head?
Speaker A:They're kind of priority.
Speaker A:They're just swirling, swirling, swirling, swirling.
Speaker A:Okay, first and foremost, brain dump them.
Speaker A:You have got to get them out of your head because they will never stop swirling if you don't get them out of your head.
Speaker A:You will continue to think and think and think and think and think and think about them because you're, they're not out of your head, right?
Speaker A:So first and foremost, you have to get them all out of your head.
Speaker B:Okay?
Speaker A:And then once they are out of your head, I want you to walk away.
Speaker A:This step is a little optional, but I'm telling you, I am telling you that if you hold up before you start executing 90% of the time, what I see, well, maybe not 90, maybe less than maybe, let's go like 60 to 70% of the time when, when you come back to it the next day, the idea is no longer as exciting as it once was.
Speaker C:Right.
Speaker A:Like, it's kind of like it was in the moment.
Speaker A:This is something I have been very heavily focused on, is like that, practicing the pause, not executing on all the ideas, letting them sit, letting them think through.
Speaker C:Right.
Speaker A:Like letting them marinate a little bit.
Speaker A:Because here's the reality and you all have been there is like, you're going to get an idea today and you're going to execute and guess what?
Speaker A:Tomorrow you're going to get another new idea and then the next day, the ideas are never going to stop.
Speaker A:Right?
Speaker A:I will always say this.
Speaker A:You will always have more ideas than you have the capacity to execute.
Speaker A:And that is where the pause comes in.
Speaker A:Because you will not, do not, will never have the capacity to execute on all of them.
Speaker B:Okay?
Speaker A:So get them out of your head.
Speaker A:Brain dump them.
Speaker A:I call this a thoughts and ideas list because I'm not good at naming things and I'm very like, what is this?
Speaker A:Well, these are my thoughts and these are my ideas.
Speaker A:So that's what it is.
Speaker A:So you're going to brain dump them and you're going to let them sit because at least now they're out of your head.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:You're not going to judge them, you're not going to filter it.
Speaker A:Like I said, you're going to pause, you're going to do nothing with it, then you're going to come back to it.
Speaker A:And I want you to try to kind of categorize them.
Speaker A:And one of the things that you do on my thoughts and ideas list is I already have these categories set up, like admin, marketing, sales, offers, clients.
Speaker C:Right.
Speaker A:I kind of have like my ideas kind of spaced out into those, what I call the five.
Speaker A:You know, I always talk about, like the five areas.
Speaker A:Money is hiding your business.
Speaker A:So that's.
Speaker A:I use those five areas for everything.
Speaker A:So it's like clients, time, revenue, operations and marketing.
Speaker C:Right.
Speaker A:Those are my five areas.
Speaker A:And so when I get an idea, I already kind of group them.
Speaker A:But if you've not done that before and you just have like a big long list of ideas, try to collapse, like categorize them and figure out, like, where are they and what type of ideas are they so that you can start to see.
Speaker A:Because a lot of them, a lot of times when you do this are very similar.
Speaker A:They're just like iterations of each other.
Speaker A:And so sometimes you can combine two ideas, you can bring them together, you can cross one off, because again, like I said, you had an idea today and tomorrow you had a new idea.
Speaker A:And it's really not new.
Speaker A:It's just an iteration of something you.
Speaker A:You had an idea on before, right?
Speaker A:And so categorizing them helps to start to see, like, these two things are the same thing.
Speaker A:Because remember, if you are an idea generating machine, which most of us are, like, your brain is not going to remember all of those ideas that you created, right?
Speaker A:So this is where it's very important to just kind of write them down and get them out of your head and then review it.
Speaker A:I encourage my clients to do this every month during, like the monthly reflect and refine meetings that we set up Is like, okay, let's look back and see, like, go pull your thoughts and ideas list.
Speaker A:Let's relook at it.
Speaker A:Let's see what's kind of going on.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:Um, and one of the things that you can do is during this, like when you're categorizing, you can set a timer.
Speaker A:Because again, like, you, you don't want to overanalyze this.
Speaker A:You're not executing, you're not trying to figure out the house right now.
Speaker A:You're not trying to do anything of that sort.
Speaker A:Like, you're literally just categorizing the ideas.
Speaker A:And again, this is a good opportunity to be like, no, I don't really want to do this one anymore.
Speaker A:Just take it off.
Speaker A:Like, if you don't want to execute, it doesn't even need to stay on the list.
Speaker A:Like, just take it off, right?
Speaker A:So like, keep it fun, keep it focused, put some music on, whatever helps you focus.
Speaker A:Set that timer and really just get the ideas out and start categorizing them.
Speaker B:Okay?
Speaker A:And then the next step is then asking yourself the question.
Speaker A:You know, I'm always all about the questions.
Speaker A:It's always about that strategic thought of like, really looking at, like, why is this important to me?
Speaker C:Right?
Speaker A:And so you can look at like, is this driven from like a place of purpose or is this create.
Speaker A:Is this idea from a place of pressure?
Speaker A:And what I mean by pressure is not necessarily negative pressure, but it's that pressure of like, oh, Michelle, you know what you should do?
Speaker A:You should.
Speaker A:And then everybody's got these ideas.
Speaker A:Like, we all are.
Speaker A:Not only are we idea generating machines for ourself, we're idea generating machines for other People, Right?
Speaker A:And so it's easy for us to kind of cast our ideas onto other people.
Speaker A:And for a lot of us, we take that stuff to heart, right?
Speaker A:Like, we take it.
Speaker A:We.
Speaker A:We own that.
Speaker A:We're like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker A:You know?
Speaker A:And so I want you to kind of go through your list and discern a little bit of, like, is this driven by purpose or pressure?
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:And I use this example in the last episode, but of, like, backpack insights.
Speaker A:Of, like, was that because I felt, like, pressure?
Speaker A:There was.
Speaker A:I think I talked about that.
Speaker A:I don't remember what episode, but of, like, you should create a private podcast.
Speaker A:You should create a private podcast.
Speaker A:Like, people always telling me, like, you should have a private podcast.
Speaker A:But, like, forever.
Speaker A:I couldn't figure out how to create it in a way that felt good and sustainable to me.
Speaker A:So that's what I mean by creating it from a place of pressure.
Speaker A:Like, if I would have created the private podcast months ago or years ago, it would have fizzled out because I didn't have any passion or purpose behind it at all.
Speaker C:Right?
Speaker A:And so that's what I'm.
Speaker A:That's what you're trying to get by is, like, purpose.
Speaker A:Is this my idea or somebody else's?
Speaker A:And so that's another way that you can kind of look through this.
Speaker A:Is this my idea?
Speaker A:Is this something that's really on my heart?
Speaker A:Or is this something somebody else told me I should do?
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:And then that's going to help you to kind of separate from those, like, very vision led.
Speaker A:Again, we're talking about that stagnant growth energy of, like, I know something is next.
Speaker A:I know I'm there.
Speaker A:Like, not how.
Speaker A:What.
Speaker C:Right?
Speaker A:This is that question that's going to help you to really look at.
Speaker A:Is this, like, part of my new vision?
Speaker A:Like, is this in line with my vision, or is this just something I'm reacting to because I feel bored because I saw somebody else do it, because it sounded easy, right?
Speaker A:Like, how many times do we come up with an idea?
Speaker A:And it's like, well, I could easily do that.
Speaker A:You know, just because you can do it doesn't mean you should.
Speaker C:Right?
Speaker A:We've all heard that before of, like, that's what you're trying to discern here in this prioritization of your ideas?
Speaker A:And so, like, again, like, is this a FOMO reaction?
Speaker A:Is it reactive?
Speaker A:Or is it like, no, I'm going to be proactive, and this is moving me towards this next goal.
Speaker A:This is where I'm trying to achieve.
Speaker A:This is the direction I'm heading.
Speaker A:Okay, so you're going to brain dump number one.
Speaker A:Number two, you're going to really go through that list and like ask, why is this important to me?
Speaker A:And then I want you to really look at and ask yourself, like, does this align with what I call the current North Star?
Speaker A:That's a term that I use inside the focus visionary is that North Star.
Speaker A:But you can look at it of like the end destination.
Speaker A:You know, I've used the analogy of like cross country road trip, right?
Speaker A:Like you have your starting point and then you have your destination.
Speaker A:Like where are you trying to go if you're starting in Florida and you're trying to get to California, right?
Speaker A:So like, is this idea going to keep you in line on the straightest path to California, or is this idea going to take you all the way up to freaking Minnesota and then down, right?
Speaker A:Like that's what you're trying to really look at and you're trying to use those filters of like, is this that next step and it's going to bring me in the right direction or is it just a shiny distraction?
Speaker A:And shiny distractions can be fun, right?
Speaker A:Like, even on a road trip it's like, hey, let's take this route instead.
Speaker A:But again, just know it's going to add time.
Speaker A:It's not going to get you there any faster.
Speaker A:It's not going to.
Speaker A:It may give you a nice experience, but it's not necessarily in the direction that you want to go.
Speaker A:But it could be a nice distraction, right?
Speaker A:So that's what you're really kind of discerning here at this point is like, is this in alignment with the direction that I am currently headed or is it a bit of a detour, you know, and that's why I use that North Star.
Speaker A:Because if you think about it, the North Star is like, you can always look up, find the North Star and you know what direction you're headed, right?
Speaker A:And that's why I call it your North Star is like that guiding light, that guiding star that tells you, like, it's that filter system of like, am I moving in the right direction?
Speaker C:Right?
Speaker A:Like, is this in alignment with what I want to do or is this just kind of all over the place, right?
Speaker A:And so you want to make sure that the idea is serving your current focus.
Speaker A:Again, like, if it's going to take you way the hell out of the way, you want to be careful about that, right?
Speaker A:Like, and you got to ask yourself, like, am I willing to go way out of my way and am I willing to take that detour or not.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:And there are times where you're going to go through this and you're gonna be like, I still love this idea, but it's a not right now.
Speaker C:Right?
Speaker A:Like, it's still an amazing idea.
Speaker A:I don't want to forget about it.
Speaker A:I'm still at some point gonna execute on it, but now is not right time.
Speaker A:That was me for months and years with Back Pocket Insights.
Speaker A:It was like, I want a community.
Speaker A:I was craving a community.
Speaker A:I wanted a place for all of the listeners of this podcast to be able to go and connect deeper, right?
Speaker A:Like in a more community way where we could have deeper conversations where I could learn more about each other, you and the listeners, and like, connect you guys.
Speaker A:Because I love to be a power connector of people and I know there's amazing people that are listening and it's like, I want all these things.
Speaker A:But, like, I wasn't willing to create a Facebook group again.
Speaker A:I. I didn't want to create something on circle.
Speaker A:I didn't want to create anything.
Speaker A:Like, I just couldn't figure out, like, again, it was like, it's a good idea, but it always kept being a not right now, until one day it just clicked and it was like, nope, it's a right now.
Speaker A:I figured it out.
Speaker A:I got it.
Speaker A:I know exactly how I'm going to execute on this now.
Speaker C:Right?
Speaker A:And so you got to just.
Speaker A:That's where I'm saying, keep this list so that you can always come back to it and be like, still a good idea, but not right now.
Speaker C:Right?
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:And then your next step is, what about this is exciting to me, right?
Speaker A:Like, why is this so exciting?
Speaker A:Why does this feel excitement?
Speaker A:Because, like, exciting.
Speaker A:Because remember, excitement is a, is a very powerful energy.
Speaker A:And when we are excited about something, like, there's a reason for it, right?
Speaker A:There's a subconscious reason for it.
Speaker A:There's a conscious reason for it.
Speaker A:There's like, you know, we are excited for a reason.
Speaker A:And so.
Speaker A:But you want to keep that excitement in check because you want to ask yourself again, like, is it because you need a short term dopamine hit, right?
Speaker A:Because we've all been there, right?
Speaker A:Like, let's create something new.
Speaker A:Let's create something easy.
Speaker A:Let's create an easy.
Speaker A:Yes.
Speaker A:Let's kind of go off because we're needing a little bit of a dopamine hit right now.
Speaker A:And that's very valid, right?
Speaker A:But again, if you're looking at it from a place of like, long term, I'm Stuck.
Speaker A:I want to move through it.
Speaker A:I'm ready for that next stage.
Speaker A:It's like, is this going to get you to that next stage or is it just going to give you a win right now?
Speaker A:And both are extremely valid answers, right?
Speaker A:And so you've got to really look at it from that perspective.
Speaker A:And another really hard question you can ask yourself is like, does this light me up because it fits with my vision and the direction that I'm going, or is it because it feels like an escape from the things that are uncomfortable or the hard things that I don't want to do?
Speaker C:Right?
Speaker A:Again, like, we've all been there.
Speaker A:We've all been there.
Speaker A:I was there, I mean, a couple of weeks ago I was like creating a new offer, which I may still launch out again.
Speaker A:But again, this is where that discernment is.
Speaker A:Like, I spent the time, created the offer, got it all set up, and I was like, why am I creating this offer?
Speaker A:It's because.
Speaker A:It's like, well, because it might.
Speaker A:It sounded easier than promoting the Focus Visionary Accelerator, but at the end of the day, my North Star is to get the Focus Visionary Accelerator in as many hands as possible, right?
Speaker A:Like, I really want every business owner to have that framework and to have access to that level of support and to be able to see the power in understanding and having that beautiful structure, right?
Speaker A:Like, that is really my mission.
Speaker A:I want, like, I want the Focus Visionary to be a known program that people are talking about.
Speaker A:But you know, when it's new and your audience is smaller, like, and you don't get like that big influx of people, it's like, well, maybe this isn't what they need.
Speaker A:Maybe I don't want to.
Speaker A:Maybe I'm not promoting it correctly.
Speaker A:Maybe I'm not, you know, nobody's listening.
Speaker A:Nobody.
Speaker A:So maybe if I try this offer, this will help, right?
Speaker A:And that's why I put it on hold.
Speaker A:Because I'm like, but that's not really what I want, right?
Speaker A:Like, I want people to see and feel the value of the Focus Visionary, right?
Speaker A:And so, yes, there's time and place for a little bit of pivot and new ideas and they're fun.
Speaker A:But again, it's not really, it's not really in alignment with what I want to do moving forward.
Speaker A:And there's no guarantee that it would be a short term dopamine hit.
Speaker A:The dopamine hit was in the creation process of it.
Speaker A:But again, you still have to sell it, right?
Speaker A:And so there was no guarantee it's going to sell.
Speaker A:There's no, no guarantee that it's going to take off any better.
Speaker C:Right.
Speaker A:And so that dopamine hit can be very short lived.
Speaker A:If it's like you're creating from a place of like that short term, like wanting that quick win and then maybe you don't get it.
Speaker A:That can be just as disheartening and discouraging and that can even cause that more really, really stuck energy of like just feeling super frustrated.
Speaker C:Right?
Speaker A:So you don't really want to go.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:So like remember like your energy matters, your energy matters but like make sure that you're like being intentional with it.
Speaker A:You're checking in, you're really asking yourself like why is this lighting me up?
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:And then another really good check for discernment is like what will this cost me if I say yes to this?
Speaker A:So because again more ideas than the capacity to execute.
Speaker A:So if you say yes to moving through with this process, what might get delegated, what might get dropped off, where do you see yourself like getting a little bit overwhelmed with time, energy, money, focus, right?
Speaker A:Like where's this going to throw your focus?
Speaker A:Again like the creation of that new offer.
Speaker A:It throws my focus, my focus for the next 60 days.
Speaker A:When I set up my 60 day plan this last time was around visibility, around for focus visionary accelerator.
Speaker A:And so by creating a different offer that was not that distracts my focus, it completely distracts the focus of what I'm trying to do.
Speaker C:Right.
Speaker A:It also takes time, it takes energy.
Speaker A:Again, the selling, the creation, setting the systems up, making sure people can book it, making sure people can buy when all those systems are already set up.
Speaker C:Right.
Speaker A:All of those systems are already done and ready.
Speaker A:And the focus visionary is like a foolproof system.
Speaker A:Like the emails go out the thing like it's very well run like the, it's like a well oiled machine at this point.
Speaker A:And so why, why am I going to change that?
Speaker A:Because again something's going to give.
Speaker A:You cannot execute on all of your ideas and still main your capacity.
Speaker C:Right?
Speaker A:So like where, what is going to have to be delayed or dropped if you move forward with this new idea, okay.
Speaker A:And that is all that filter is doing is really helping you pile more onto your plate without taking something off.
Speaker C:Right.
Speaker A:If you are not taking something off and you're adding to your plate, you cannot continue to add, add, add, add, add without removing something is going to break, something will fall through the cracks.
Speaker A:It's just inevitable.
Speaker A:Okay, and then what is your next best step?
Speaker A:Right, so you've kind of gone through all this.
Speaker A:And at this point, it should be glaringly obvious whether or not you should execute or not.
Speaker C:Right?
Speaker A:Like, it is going to.
Speaker A:Because you're either going to have all the answers to those things or none of those answers, essentially.
Speaker C:Right?
Speaker A:And so then you get to decide, like, what do I do?
Speaker A:Do I act on it now?
Speaker A:Do I keep it on the thoughts and ideas list?
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:Do I just share it and maybe somebody else can do it, or do I just let it go entirely?
Speaker C:Right.
Speaker A:Like, there's some things that are, like, a really good idea, but they're not a good idea for you.
Speaker A:Maybe it's a good idea for somebody else.
Speaker A:And so you just kind of pass the idea along, right?
Speaker A:It's like, hey, I had this idea.
Speaker A:It's not something I want to do, but I thought maybe it would be perfect for you.
Speaker A:Or you keep it on your thoughts and ideas list.
Speaker A:That.
Speaker A:That's that stage of like, I still am excited about this.
Speaker A:I still feel really good about it.
Speaker A:I still think it's something I want to do.
Speaker A:But not right now, right?
Speaker A:That's your kind of not right now.
Speaker A:Listen.
Speaker A:And then you've got the ones that are like, no, no, no, I couldn't come up with anything.
Speaker A:I would have had to give up too much.
Speaker A:I'm not excited about it.
Speaker A:It's coming from a place of pressure.
Speaker A:Those.
Speaker A:You just cross them right off.
Speaker A:And that feels so good, that freeing.
Speaker A:That just like, no, like, I don't want to do this.
Speaker A:It's okay.
Speaker C:Right?
Speaker A:You get to have that.
Speaker A:And then there's the ones that you act on.
Speaker B:Okay?
Speaker A:And then that's where you put your time, your focus, your energy, your money.
Speaker A:And from there, you.
Speaker A:You have to decide and discern, like, can I execute on this on my own or do I need help?
Speaker C:Help, Right?
Speaker A:Do I have the idea and I need the how to's.
Speaker A:Like, that's what my client said to me.
Speaker A:I love that.
Speaker A:I had a client say that to me.
Speaker A:She was like, michelle, I'm full of ideas, but I don't have any of the how to's, and that's why I need you.
Speaker A:And I was like, I love that.
Speaker A:Like, I'm happy to give you the how to's, right?
Speaker A:So you've got to decide, like, do you have the idea and the how to, or do you need somebody to help you with the how to, which.
Speaker A:Wink, wink, you know, here I am right here for you anyway, you know what I mean?
Speaker A:So you know what I'm talking about?
Speaker A:Like, you got to decide where do you go?
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:And then I just always keep in mind it's normal to have too many ideas.
Speaker A:That's just your creative, your neurodivergent, that super strategic idea generating brain.
Speaker A:Most entrepreneurs have that brain.
Speaker A:So I don't want you to feel bad about it and like, don't think you can stop the cycle because you can't.
Speaker A:Like, and you don't want to, right?
Speaker A:Like, you don't want to shut your creativity down.
Speaker A:You just need a place to channel that creativity.
Speaker C:All right?
Speaker A:But growth comes from discernment, right?
Speaker A:The growth that you're looking for, that now what that like unsettled feeling that comes from a discernment, right?
Speaker A:So go back.
Speaker A:If you didn't listen to the episode last week, go back and listen to that episode.
Speaker A:It's not from a place of busyness, right?
Speaker A:Like, it is not going to come from a place of more, more, more, more, more.
Speaker A:It's just not okay.
Speaker A:And you've got to remember, like, it is not your job to do everything right.
Speaker A:It is always.
Speaker A:You've got to do the right thing, right?
Speaker A:And sometimes again, this is another area that can be very hard.
Speaker A:Again that, that saying of like, you can't read the bottle from the in or the label from the inside of the bottle, right?
Speaker A:Like, sometimes it's like, I don't know how to answer these questions.
Speaker A:And that's where like a coach or a biz bestie or mentor or whoever you want to hire your strategist, you know, like, can help you to ask that question of like, you know, because a lot of times, especially in that, from that place of like passion versus pressure is that we sometimes absorb other people's excitement.
Speaker A:So like when other people are really excited for us and share these ideas and do all these things, like, it's easy for us to get excited about it and it's easy for us to think like, no, this is my idea, this is my excitement.
Speaker A:But that's where somebody with an outside perspective can kind of ask those deeper questions and really make sure, like, yes, this is yours.
Speaker A:Yes, this falls in alignment.
Speaker A:Yes, this is something you want to do.
Speaker C:You.
Speaker A:Okay, so if you didn't write these things down, come back to this episode, re listen to it on one and a half speed.
Speaker A:When you can write the questions down, write those steps down and then make that clear decision on what to act on next and then what you're shelving for later, okay?
Speaker A:So prioritize those ideas.
Speaker A:This is, this is going to help you from getting into that place of, like, spiraling and spinning your wheels.
