Are you feeling overwhelmed by all the information out there when trying to start something new? This podcast dives into the common tendency to get stuck in the learning phase, where we consume endless content without taking action.
Using a personal experience with sourdough baking as an analogy, I emphasize the importance of picking a trusted resource and just diving in. Instead of getting bogged down by the multitude of opinions and methods, the key takeaway is to learn by doing. It's time to stop absorbing and start taking action, because the real learning happens when you roll up your sleeves and get started.

Hello.
Speaker A:Happy Friday.
Speaker A:Maybe it's not Friday when you're listening, but I'm releasing this on a Friday.
Speaker A:It's Friday freestyle.
Speaker A:And I have a fun little, like, business analogy for you today.
Speaker A:And so for Christmas, if you follow me on social, on Facebook or I've been posting a little bit on Instagram.
Speaker A:But anyway, so for Christmas, I got a sourdough starter.
Speaker A:So, you know, sourdough kind of, like, is so popular, and it became kind of, like a TikTok influencer type thing.
Speaker A:And, like, everybody was doing it and something I've just been kind of, like, watching, but I was like, I don't feel like getting into the time of it.
Speaker A:It seems like a lot of work.
Speaker A:Well, then my mom got me this, like, whole sourdough kit for Christmas, and so I was like, okay, I'm going all in.
Speaker A:Well, so from Christmas to New Year's, I just dove in, like, head first, just started researching.
Speaker A:Like, I don't know what to do.
Speaker A:Like, I don't know how to figure this out.
Speaker A:Like, I don't.
Speaker A:Like, what do we do?
Speaker A:And so, like, I started watching TikToks, and then, you know, like, TikTok, the second you watch one video, you get a million other videos.
Speaker A:And the algorithm is just so smart over there.
Speaker A:And so then my Facebook feed started getting filled with sourdough and insta.
Speaker A:I mean, all of it, right?
Speaker A:Like, I was just inundated with, like, all of these sourdough recipes, and I was just, like, sitting there thinking, oh, my gosh, I have no idea, like, what to do.
Speaker A:Like, this seems so overwhelming.
Speaker A:And then I just was like, okay, I'm gonna print out the instructions.
Speaker A:I'm gonna just.
Speaker A:I'm just gonna go for it.
Speaker A:I'm just gonna go for it.
Speaker A:I'm just gonna set it up.
Speaker A:I'm gonna start it on the first.
Speaker A:Because it was like, in the beginning, there was, like, day one, day two, and I was like, I'm just gonna do it on the first.
Speaker A:So I remember, like, what day I'm on because it matches with the day of the month.
Speaker A:And once I got into it, as with anything, I was like, oh, okay.
Speaker A:Like, I started seeing the results, like, oh, if I do this, then.
Speaker A:Then this grows.
Speaker A:And if I do this, like, your starter, you have to feed it, and then, you know, you can draw some of it off.
Speaker A:I mean, there's just, like, steps to it.
Speaker A:Right?
Speaker A:But my point is this.
Speaker A:As I was going through this, I thought to myself, like, how many times do we do this to ourselves?
Speaker A:In business, right, where we just have an idea or we want to do something new, or we want to take action on something.
Speaker A:And instead of just taking action, we.
Speaker A:We were like, let me learn about it first.
Speaker A:Let me watch more videos.
Speaker A:Let me do all these things, right?
Speaker A:And so it gets overwhelming, and then what do we do when we get overwhelmed?
Speaker A:We shut down.
Speaker A:And that's kind of what was happening.
Speaker A:And then I finally was like, I'm just gonna take action.
Speaker A:And so that's really the analogy in the lesson here is that there is always going to be more noise, more information, more opinions, more.
Speaker A:More options than you have the capacity to absorb, right?
Speaker A:And at some point, you just have to pick one.
Speaker A:Like, pick one person, pick one resource that you are going to follow and take action and start learning by doing all right.
Speaker A:There's only so much you can learn by reading and watching and reading and watching and reading and watching.
Speaker A:At some point, you have to just do all right.
Speaker A:And then you find somebody or usually a couple resources of people that, like, you, you know, you, like, you trust.
Speaker A:And that's exactly what I did.
Speaker A:Like, I was like, you know what?
Speaker A:I'm just freaking over this.
Speaker A:I'm done.
Speaker A:Like, I'm.
Speaker A:So.
Speaker A:If I continue to watch these videos, I'm never going to make a freaking loaf of bread in my life.
Speaker A:And so there was somebody that I met here locally years and years ago, and I followed her on Instagram, and I knew that she had kind of, like, really gotten into it.
Speaker A:She started, like, homesteading, and she had really gotten into it.
Speaker A:And I just reached out to her and I like, hey, I don't even know where to start.
Speaker A:Like, do you have.
Speaker A:And she was like, you know what?
Speaker A:Actually, I have an entire Instagram, like, highlight in my Instagram that just walks you through it.
Speaker A:And so.
Speaker A:And it wasn't, like, written down.
Speaker A:And I'm very much like, I want to read it and, like, see it on paper.
Speaker A:And so I watched her highlights one by one, and I wrote down the steps, and then I just started doing it.
Speaker A:And then I was like, oh, okay, well, now that I see the steps, this is very easy, right?
Speaker A:So, like, I went to a trusted source, I asked her to help me, and then I took action.
Speaker A:And now that I've, like, my first loaf, I thought it came out really well.
Speaker A:Well, then I started reading about this other method, and then I tried this other thing, and it worked really well.
Speaker A:And then I looked up.
Speaker A:I can't even remember how I found this one website, but there's A website.
Speaker A:It's called like little Little Spoon Farm, I think.
Speaker A:And I freaking love her recipes because it breaks it down like by time stamps, right?
Speaker A:Like feed your starter 7:00am, you know, whatever.
Speaker A:So anyways, my point here is this though, like, now that is my go to resource for any new sourdough recipe that I want to try because I don't have time.
Speaker A:I will literally, like, my brain would explode if you try to follow all the people because everybody's got a different opinion on, like, how.
Speaker A:What ratios to feed with, do you.
Speaker A:How long to let it set, how long to let it ferment, how long if do you cold proof it?
Speaker A:Do you cover.
Speaker A:Cover it?
Speaker A:Do you do.
Speaker A:I mean, there's just so freaking much.
Speaker A:And so like, the whole point here is this, is that this same happens in business, right?
Speaker A:If you're following a bunch of the same people on Instagram, if you start researching it on TikTok or you start looking it up on Pinterest or Googling it or just looking or asking people's opinions, you're going to get a million opinions, you're going to get a million options.
Speaker A:And at some point you have to just stop and take action and learn by doing.
Speaker A:And I'm doing that with the sourdough.
Speaker A:Like, every single one of my loaves comes out a little bit better.
Speaker A:And I'm really starting to get a little bit more experimental with it, right?
Speaker A:Like, you can add on, but like, at some point, like in the beginning, you just kind of start.
Speaker A:You just got to start and you just got to get one loaf made, right?
Speaker A:And then you can work on the next one and then you can work on the next step and the next step and the next step.
Speaker A:Okay, so that's really like, it just really reminded me of, like, what.
Speaker A:We do the same thing in our businesses.
Speaker A:We get so consumed with absorbing, absorbing and learning and reading and absorbing that we don't take action.
Speaker A:So I want you, if there is something that you have been absorbing and learning, even if you've been binging this podcast, like, what episode?
Speaker A:Like, what action can you take?
Speaker A:Each one of these episodes has some action step, right?
Speaker A:So what action are you taking?
Speaker A:Or are you just binging this content and not taking any action?
Speaker A:Right?
Speaker A:Go take action and learn by doing, okay, stop absorbing and go take action.
Speaker A:And you, I'm telling you, like, it's not near as overwhelming when you just figure it out.
Speaker A:Like when you just go take action, it's like, oh, okay, well, now this makes sense.
Speaker A:All right, well, now I could maybe tweak this or.
Speaker A:I tried this, and I think I might do it this way.
Speaker A:But you can't learn those tweaks if you don't even start.
Speaker A:Okay?
Speaker A:So just go.
Speaker A:Start.
Speaker A:All right.
Speaker A:I love you.
Speaker A:I believe in you.
Speaker A:I'll talk to you soon.
